I am a massive introvert. Most people don’t believe me. “Fake it ’til you make it” has always been my mantra when it comes to socializing, so I guess I’ve finally “made it.” Even so, a day working at the local polls (like this last one for the Primary) takes a lot out of me and leaves me absolutely drained for days.
Yet, I still do it, and I will continue to do it over and over and over again. Meeting so many new Democrats, having those brief, but important conversations, and connecting with people is one of the most critical components of building our community. The relationships we develop will not only bring impactful change locally, but also help in the larger movement to save our democracy.
Because if I don’t do it, who will? Who will do the work to unite Palisades Democrats, make a place for us in the community, get out the vote, find volunteers, inform people of the alt-right lunacy infecting our school board? It’s heavy stuff I choose to put on my plate… because I believe these issues have never been more important for Palisades and our country. I’m not asking you to do all of these things, of course, but I am asking you to take part.
There is no doubt our community is growing – I have the mailing list to prove it! Yet, our volunteer base remains small. We need your help, friends. Forward a PDA email, show up to just one event, volunteer once, pull yourself just slightly out of your comfort zone and ask, if not you, then who?
